Newsletter March 2022

important information and changes to the key dates

Dear colleagues,
Events in the last few weeks and months have shown us that it is not getting any easier to predict the major issues affecting all our lives. Our science is not immune from these developments but we are making every effort to minimise their impact on our important Geoanalysis conference in Freiberg, Germany from 6 to 12 August 2022.

We all know very well from past conferences that the spirit of Geoanalysis is encapsulated in the personal encounters throughout the conference, starting with the icebreaker party, through the discussions stimulated by the plenary lectures, in front of the posters and with the instrument exhibitors, and at the formal and informal meetings throughout the event.

We, as the organising committee, with the support of the IAG, are firmly convinced that we wish to continue this inspiring and vibrant tradition in Freiberg at Geoanalysis 2022. We recognise that many of you are tired of participating in virtual conferences and wish to come to Freiberg to discuss technical issues face to face with fellow geoanalysts in a stimulating cultural environment. The attached leaflet gives a glimpse of the rich history of Freiberg and significant geological outcrops in the surrounding countryside.

However, we have to acknowledge that it will be difficult or even impossible for some of you to come to Freiberg in person. We have therefore decided, after consultation with the IAG Council, to provide digital access to the conference for those who are unable to attend in person because of travel restrictions. If you find yourself in this position, please contact us and we will do our best to understand your circumstances and assist in any way we can.

We hope that this decision will make it much easier for students in particular to access the scientific discussions at the conference and present their own results in lectures and posters.

In view of the current difficult situation, which forces us all to make decisions at short notice, but also demands much more from the organising committee, we have decided to make the following changes to registration:

  • Early Bird Registration Deadline: 30 April 2022

  • Abstract Submission Deadline: 30 April 2022

  • Abstract acceptance letter sent out: 31 May 2022

At this stage, we would urge you to submit your abstract for Geoanalysis 2022 as soon as possible to assist us in putting together a topical and stimulating programme of presentations on all aspects of geoanalytical science. We look forward to receiving your contribution shortly!
